Will Bankruptcy Affect My Paycheck Or Future Wages?

No, bankruptcy will not affect your paycheck or future wages.  The only exception to this is if you elect to file for Chapter 13 and elect to have the trustee payment automatically deducted from your pay and sent to the trustee.  For the record, I strongly recommend this as an option, as it all but guarantees that the trustee payment is made so long as you keep your job and requires minimal effort on your part.  Realize, of course, that if you do file for Chapter 13 protection, you are committing a portion of your future wages to making payments to the trustee under your plan, but the income itself will not be affected.

There is a common misconception that employers see bankruptcy negatively and that it can cost you your job or future advancement.  This is simply untrue.  Employers are not permitted to discriminate against an employee on the basis of a bankruptcy filing.  While it is nice to have that in the law, it is more important that it does not happen in the practical world either.  Some employers see bankruptcy as positive, recognizing that you are again taking control of your finances.  More employers, however, just have no interest at all in whether you have filed for bankruptcy or not, as it does not affect them.
